Google Gemini Integration

How Zevin surfaces your store's products inside Google Gemini and Google Shopping AI.

Google Gemini has deep integration with Google Shopping, making it one of the highest-intent AI shopping surfaces. Zevin connects your catalogue to both the Gemini conversational layer and the underlying Google Merchant Centre feed that powers it.

Google’s AI shopping stack

Google routes shopping queries through several layers:

LayerWhat it does
Google Merchant CentreStructured product data (price, availability, images)
Google Shopping GraphEntity-level product knowledge graph
GeminiConversational interface that draws on both of the above

Zevin writes to all three layers via Google’s Merchant Centre Content API and Google’s generative commerce APIs.

How Zevin submits your products

Google Merchant Centre feed

Zevin generates and maintains a Google Shopping feed from your connected store and submits it to Google Merchant Centre on your behalf. The feed includes:

  • id, title, description, link, image_link
  • price, sale_price, availability
  • brand, gtin (if available), condition
  • product_type and google_product_category

Feed updates are pushed to Google within 30 minutes of any change in your source platform.

Merchant Centre linking

During onboarding, you’ll be asked to either:

  1. Link an existing Merchant Centre account — Zevin adds itself as a data source sub-account
  2. Let Zevin create a sub-account — managed entirely by Zevin, no setup required

Option 2 is recommended for new stores or stores that do not already run Google Shopping campaigns.

Gemini conversational shopping

Once your feed is approved by Google (typically 24–72 hours), your products become eligible to appear in Gemini responses. When a Gemini user asks “Where can I buy a waterproof hiking jacket under £150?”, Gemini considers your catalogue alongside other eligible merchants.

Eligibility requirements

Google enforces the following requirements for Gemini Shopping eligibility:

  • Return policy must be published on your website
  • Shipping rates must be accurate in the feed
  • No adult-only or restricted products in the submitted feed
  • Merchant Centre account must not have active policy violations

Zevin’s onboarding checklist guides you through each requirement.

Free Listings vs. Shopping Ads

Zevin targets Free Listings (formerly Google Shopping Free). You do not need to run paid Shopping campaigns to benefit from Gemini visibility. However, if you already run Shopping Ads, Zevin’s feed is fully compatible — it can serve as your primary feed source for both free and paid placements.

Analytics

Zevin’s analytics dashboard pulls impression and click data from Google Merchant Centre and presents it alongside your other AI platform metrics, giving a unified view of AI-referred traffic.

Troubleshooting

Feed disapproval — The most common cause is mismatched pricing between your product page and the feed. Zevin syncs prices in real time; if you see disapprovals, check whether a CDN or caching layer is serving stale prices on your product pages.

“Not crawlable” errors — Ensure your robots.txt does not block Googlebot from product pages. Zevin can diagnose this automatically from the Feed health tab in your dashboard.
